Consultancy
Starting in 2026, I will offer paid antenna design consultancy services for industry. All consultancy work will be provided directly by me, Robert Fennis.

I hold a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, specialized in Telecommunication Engineering, from the University of Twente. I have five years of experience as an Antenna Engineer at Thales The Netherlands in Hengelo, where I worked on legacy, current, and future antenna designs. I am listed as inventor on two patents, both owned by Thales. Following this role, I was hired through HE Space as an Antenna Engineer at the European Space Agency, where I am currently employed.
Areas of expertise
My primary expertise lies in passive antenna design and simulation. I am particularly experienced in patch antenna design, phased array antennas, and other antenna topologies realized in PCBs and ridged waveguides. I also have experience in the design of RF filter components. I am also familiar with radome design and the impact on antennas.
Besides practical antenna engineering I am also adept at using Comsol Multiphysics and Ansys HFSS although I do not own any licenses myself. I am well versed in the theory of Computational Electromagnetics. Besides practical antenna engineering I can also help with troubleshooting regarding antenna simulations and theory.

How I can help
If you are experiencing challenges with antenna designs in your products, I can assist by analyzing the current state and working with you to identify solutions that maximize antenna performance.

As the author of my own electromagnetic finite element simulation software, I do not incur licensing costs for commercial EM simulation tools. This allows me to provide high quality simulation driven analysis without passing on software licensing expenses.
I will work closely with you to understand the problem, explore available solution options, and develop a proposed solution that fits within your project budget. Deliverables can include the following.

A detailed professional report in PDF format, explaining both practically and theoretically the solutions that have been identified. A comprehensive data package containing the information required to implement and test the proposed solution, including:
-
Touchstone snp files of all relevant components.
-
Antenna radiation patterns in any ASCII based format of your preference.
-
A complete set of Python simulation files to run the proposed solution independently using EMerge, Optycal, or Heavi.
-
Three dimensional geometry files in STEP, IGES, or STL format for any geometry or component created.
-
Gerber or DXF files for proposed PCB based solutions.

Success Based Pricing
I work on a results based model where you only pay for a solution that performs as agreed. A fixed price is defined upfront for the proposed solution, and payment is due only if the solution meets the mutually agreed technical objectives and performance criteria.

To ensure clarity and avoid misunderstandings, success criteria, validation methods, and acceptance conditions are defined in advance. This model applies to analysis and design deliverables and does not constitute a guarantee of manufacturability, regulatory approval, or system level performance beyond the agreed scope.
Introductory Consultancy Offer
To establish a strong portfolio, I am offering free consultancy services to the first one or two clients who get in touch. In exchange, I request permission to use the collaboration and its outcomes as anonymized or agreed-upon promotional material, such as case studies or testimonials.

This offer is limited and intended to ensure mutual value: high-quality consultancy for the client, and demonstrable experience for future reference.
